HEROES Preserves Memory of POW and MIA Service Members with HQ Display

At Exchange Headquarters in Dallas, a table in the cafeteria is set for six places, but the chairs will remain empty.

The table stands in honor of National POW/MIA Recognition Day, which falls on the third Friday of September, to remember those who were prisoners of war and those who are still missing in action. The six place-settings are for the branches of the Armed Forces, represented by a hat for each Service. An American flag and the POW/MIA flag stand next to the table.

The HQ display was put together by the Exchange’s HEROES special emphasis group, which recognizes the contributions and sacrifices of Exchange associates and retirees who are military Veterans, as well as supporting their spouses and family members.

“We mark this day of remembrance in solidarity with the families, fellow service members and loved ones of prisoners of war and those still missing in action,” said Denise Gumbert, vice president of services, health, wellness and telecom, who serves as an Executive Champion for the HEROES group. “We invite all associates to take a moment to reflect on the service and sacrifice of our POWs and MIA service members.”
