After being invited to participate by 737th Training Group Commander Col. Billy Wilson Jr., the Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland Exchange has taken part in the weekly Basic Military Training (BMT) graduation ceremonies at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, strengthening its long-standing connection with the military community.

The program, facilitated by JBSA-Lackland Exchange General Manager Mikel Hunter and 37th Training Wing Commander Col. Willie Cooper since 2023, celebrates Airmen of the Quarter and Airmen of the Year with plaques and Exchange gift cards – demonstrating the Exchange’s commitment to supporting service members from the start of their military careers.

Col. Wilson thought highly of the program and requested Hunter and his team use the graduation ceremonies as an additional platform for recognition.

“BMT graduation is the gateway to the Air Force—and the gateway to the Exchange,” Hunter said. “Col. Wilson’s invitation to join the ceremony activities allows the Exchange to show new Airmen that we will be there for them from day one and throughout their journey.”

Every Wednesday, 700 to 800 new Airmen take their first steps into the U.S. Air Force. As Airmen march forward into their new careers, Hunter said the Exchange’s involvement showcases the idea they are not alone, and the Exchange is a partner in their service and success.
