The Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland Express reopened with a new look and a better-for-you dining option Dec. 14 in alignment with the Exchangeโ€™s rebranding of Express stores worldwide.

Regional Vice President Antonio Porter and General Manager Mikel Hunter were joined by 502nd Installation Support Group Commander Col. Shamekia Toliver to unveil the storeโ€™s $1.8 million upgrades and new restaurants, Eddie Peppers and Chopz during a ribbon-cutting event.

The Exchange-funded project includes an expanded self-checkout area, new lighting, expanded Snack Avenue, additional cooler doors, wall murals and fresh paint.

โ€œOur community at JBSA-Lackland can enjoy a truly convenient shopping experience in our upgraded Express,โ€ Hunter said. โ€œEddie Peppers and Chopz are welcome additions to the dining lineup, and weโ€™re excited to bring more options to the installation.โ€

The self-checkout registers were moved closer to the front of the store to provide more space to browse merchandise. The new Eddie Peppers and Chopz quick-serve restaurants offer tacos, subs, burritos, salads and breakfast items in line with the Exchangeโ€™s BE FIT commitment to keeping service members ready and resilient.

Upgrades will continue in the new year. JBSA-Lackland Exchange will welcome Hunt Brothers Pizza and Hot Stuff Kitchen to the Basic Military Training Troop store in January.
