A new performance management system will launch in October that will give hourly associates a much better view of how theyโ€™re doing in their jobs and whether theyโ€™re ready to move to the next level.

Why the need for change?

โ€œThe current performance management process for hourly associates has been in use for more than 25 years,โ€ said Executive Vice President and Chief HR Officer Leigh Roop. โ€œDuring this time, the Exchange and the business environment have undergone many changes. We need to ensure associateโ€™s performance measures are aligned with our business.โ€

The systemโ€™s features will streamline the hourly performance evaluation process, integrate corporate initiatives, add competencies, improve performance feedback, adjust the rating scale, and add readiness options, among other enhancements.

โ€œAs with other organizations, the Exchange wants to offer its associates the best opportunities for success by providing a single automated process that eliminates redundancies and captures their performance accurately,โ€ Roop said.

Focus is on hourly associates

The program was designed with hourly associates in mind. They participated in focus groups responsible for identifying areas for improvement. The enhancements will establish performance expectations early in the rating cycle while reinforcing feedback to ensure the associateโ€™s performance is aligned to corporate initiatives.

Hourly associates make up 70 percent of the Exchangeโ€™s workforce.

Roop said the new program is designed to differentiate and reward high performance.

โ€œWe are excited by the cross region/directorate collaboration and commitment involved in the development and roll out of this program,โ€ she said.ย ย โ€œThe new hourly performance management program will drive a performance-based culture adopting industry best practices.โ€

The HR Directorate will send information to hourly associates and conduct training between now and October. During the coming months, associates are encouraged to check the Red-E app on their smart phones, read the Exchange Post and check their email for training opportunities and new information.
