FORT SILL, Okla. – Six esports professionals from Complexity Gaming leveled up with a different set of skills this month with help from Fort Sill Soldiers, the Exchange, Army Installation Management Command (IMCOM) Family and MWR.
As part of the Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers (BOSS) initiative, the pro gamers spent Oct. 4 through Oct. 5 learning what it’s like to be a Soldier. The gamers participated in a 3-mile battalion run and spent time in the classroom learning about military life. Esports has become a focus of the Army. Esports has become a focus of the Army. Army IMCOM Family and MWR Programs offers esports as a healthy recreational and leisure activity for Soldiers which helps build skills they can utilize while serving our nation. Soldiers contribute to the Army mission in a variety of career fields that draw on gaming skills, from technological support to digital security and more.
Complexity gamers also attended a Friday meet-and-greet at the Fort Sill Exchange. The pros offered gaming advice to Soldiers, posed for pictures and signed autographs.
“It’s an honor to give back to the Fort Sill and Lawton communities with these events,” said Fort Sill Exchange Store Manager Charles Eaves.
Interacting with the public is always a treat, the pros said.
“Being able to connect to your followers, and meeting new people, it’s always fun doing things like that,” Complexity’s Sam “Ducky” Hatch said.
On Saturday, Soldiers and the Fort Sill community gamed with the esports pros at the Patriot Club.
Complexity is a long-standing esports organization. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones acquired a major stake in the franchise in 2017.
“These guys [Soldiers] are as big of gamers as us—they love it,” Complexity’s Gabriell “Gabeismon” Brunelle said. “There’s a lot of similarities.”
