Exchange alteration shops have found a creative way to help during the pandemic while adhering to physical distancing restrictions.
About 40 alteration shops worldwide are making face coverings in response to the Department of Defense guidance requiring the use of them on installations. Business is brisk. For example, the alterations store at Fort Carson sold more than 7,500 in the last month, an average of 250 each day.
“In times like these, sometimes you have to think outside the box and make the best of a bad situation,” said Services and Commercial Leasing Vice President Darryl Porter. “The alterations stores have pivoted their business model and are now able to provide an in-demand product that everyone must have.”
The face coverings, which are being created in accordance with CDC guidelines, are for sale to all authorized shoppers.
“The feedback from both customers and command has been very positive,” said Fort Carson Exchange General Manager Lawrence Simmons. “They are happy with the availability of a critical product at a good price.”
