Exchange Supports Past, Present and Future Warfighters at Altus AFB ‘Legacy of the Spear’ Event

Air Force Vice Chief of Staff Gen. David Allvin, shown with Altus AFB Exchange General Manager Mikel Hunter, stopped by the Exchange table during the Legacy of the Spear event to extend his thanks to the Exchange.
As Altus Air Force Base held its first “Legacy of the Spear” event, which welcomed back those previously assigned to the base, the Exchange provided integral support that made the event possible.
The two-day event ended with a base-wide celebration, for which the Exchange provided four food trucks, lots of giveaways and Altus-specific swag and souvenirs for sale. An Exchange display tractor-trailer provided a backdrop for the event, as well.
About 500 people attended the event, including 11 previous Altus AFB commanders and four previous command chiefs. Among the VIPs was current Air Force Vice Chief of Staff Gen. David Allvin, who stopped by the Exchange table to extend his thanks and comment that the event would not be complete without the Exchange present.
“Most of the previous commanders have not been back to the base since the Exchange got a major update in 2019,” said Altus AFB Exchange General Manager Mikel Hunter. “It was fun to have Gen. Allvin and others see the growth and improvements from when they were last at Altus.”
As the present leadership of the base saluted past leadership, the Exchange made sure to include future leaders as well, with a Month of the Military Child table where kids could have their picture taken and receive a military brat patch and certificate.
“The Exchange is Family Serving Family, and in many ways, this event was like a family reunion,” Hunter said. “It’s an honor for the Exchange to be a part of the incredible legacy at Altus Air Force Base.”
