Haydee Collins, a department manager at the Dobbins Air Reserve Base Exchange, was featured in a Mother’s Day salute this weekend on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

Collins was nominated by her son, Edward, who is a first sergeant in the National Guard, for the “Best Mom” award. Edward and Collins’ daughter, Genesis, both appear in the segment.

When two of Collins’ three children deployed to Iraq, Collins accompanied them as a civilian so she could be close to them.

Collins, who emigrated from Panama in 1989, is also considered a mother figure in the community, as she volunteers as an interpreter for Venezuelan neighbors on medical visits, shopping trips and more. She has helped more than 30 Venezuelans in the Dobbins community, some of whom are featured talking about Collins in the feature
