One in a series honoring the Exchange’s 128 years of family serving family.

Who she is:  I-Chen Chen, Human Resources systems analytics manager, Exchange Headquarters

Years with the Exchange: 24 years

What brought her to the Exchange: Chen joined the Exchange for the Y2K project in 1998 and has spent her career at Exchange headquarters.

Her first role at the Exchange: Chen’s first role at the Exchange was as a computer programmer in the Information Technology directorate.

Current role and responsibilities: As the Human Resources systems analytics manager, Chen develops and implements data-driven Human Resources strategies.

Memorable moment: “On that fateful day on Sept. 11, 2001, a group of associates came together, seeking solace and comfort in each other’s company,” Chen said. “As we held hands and prayed, tears flowed freely, and in that moment, we became more than just co-workers; we became a family united in a common cause. The tragedy of 9/11 brought to light the fragility of our freedom and the importance of fighting for peace. In that moment, we pledged to stand together and fight for our country, for our fellow citizens, and for the values that make our Nation great. This powerful moment of unity and solidarity served as a reminder that even in the darkest of times, we can find hope and strength in the bonds we share with each other.”

Exchange connection: Chen’s husband works for the Exchange. They met at church before joining the Exchange.

Military connection: Chen’s best friend’s son serves in the Army.

What family serving family means to her: “I work for the Exchange because I feel proud to serve our troops and their families,” Chen said. “’Family serving family’ embodies a culture of support, camaraderie and shared values. It means recognizing our associates and service members are a part of a larger community that emphasizes the importance of looking out for each other. Ultimately, it means creating a sense of community where everyone is valued, respected and supported.”
