Shoppers on Hunter Army Airfield are enjoying an improved shopping experience at the Hunter Corner Express after the Exchange installed upgrades, including two new quick-serve restaurants.

The new restaurants, Chopz and Hunt Brothers Pizza, increase the dining options available on Hunter Army Airfield, improving the Quality-of-Life for service members and their families in the Savannah, Georgia, area..

Upgrades also include an expanded Snack Avenue and new registers, lighting, flooring, fixtures and patriotic-themed décor.

Lt. Col. Derick Taylor, garrison commander, joined Exchange General Manager Bettina Ciciriello-Frederick and Express Store Manager Macy Hurst in a ribbon-cutting to unveil the new upgrades on July 24, the day before Exchange’s 130th anniversary.

“The opening today of our renovated Corner Express represents another exciting growth opportunity for Hunter Army Airfield and its population,” Taylor said. “Access to additional meal options is both refreshing and further supports the mission and quality of life for our Soldiers and their families. We are a proud collaborating partner with [the Exchange] and join with them in celebrating 130 years of providing excellent service to Soldiers of the Army.”

Guests were treated to tastings from Hunt Brothers Pizza, which offers wings and pizza by the pie or slice, and Chopz, a better-for-you option serving sub sandwiches, salads, wraps and more.

The $1.8 million project was funded entirely by the Exchange. The project took about five months to complete.

“The Express upgrade demonstrates the Exchange’s commitment to improve the shopping experience for military communities,” Ciciriello-Frederick said. “It’s an honor to serve those who serve by making their shopping experience as convenient as possible whether they visit the Express or Exchange.”

Anyone with installation access, including visitors, can purchase food at the Express and at Exchange restaurants. Shopping and dining at the Exchange supports the community, as 100% of Exchange earnings are reinvested in military communities through support for on-base Quality-of-Life programs, as well as capital improvements, such as the renovated Express.
