130 Years of Family Serving Family: Eloisa Lezel Azores, Fort Stewart (With Video)

A military spouse, Azores was a regular visitor at Fort Stewart Marne Express when she saw a job opening, applied and was hired. On her second day of work, Hurricane Helene struck.

One in a series honoring the Exchange’s 130 years of family serving family.

Who she is: Eloisa Lezel Azores, Fort Stewart Marne Express laborer

Years at the Exchange: Azores will mark her first anniversary on Sept. 24.

Military connections: Azores’ husband serves in the Army as an E-4.

What brought her to the Exchange: Azores was a regular visitor at the Marne Express when she saw a job opening.

“My husband and I just came here from South Korea,” Azores said.  “I needed a job. My husband said to wait a little bit so we can find something on post. I was coming to the Marne Express, saw they were hiring, so I applied on ApplyMyExchange.com and they accepted me.

“I think the job is an advantage for me. If my husband gets stationed somewhere else, then I can continue working with the organization.”

Memorable moments: The week Azores started, Fort Stewart was struck by Hurricane Helene.

“My first day was Monday, the hurricane came Tuesday. There was a blackout, and the streets were closed because of flooding. There were only a couple of us. Everyone was coming to our shop. It was really, really busy. There was a lot that needed to be stocked. We needed to provide ready-to-eat food. … I didn’t know I could do all that in my first week. I’m proud our team got over that.”

A month after the hurricane, Azores was recognized as associate of the month at the Marne Express.

“It was my first time ever receiving that. I didn’t expect it. Management called me into the office, and I thought I was in trouble. Then they’re like, ‘Congratulations!’ It made me feel more confident.”

Family Serving Family: “At the Marne Express, it feels like home,” Azores said.  “My husband is in the military, and I get to work on the military base. … It just feels like I belong. There is no judgment. We are all one.”
