IG Does Not Share Your Info Without Your Permission

A common misconception when reporting to the Exchange Office of Inspector General (IG) is that everyone will know you made a complaint. The IG office has a duty to protect the individuals’ identities to the maximum extent possible. However, disclosure may occur outside the Exchange if required by law or regulation. While the IG cannot guarantee confidentiality, maintaining it is key to the IG system.
At the Exchange IG office, every complaint is taken seriously and overseen with professionalism and care. The IG team understands that when people come forward with concerns, they are placing their trust in the IG. Our knowledgeable and well-trained team is committed to listening carefully, responding appropriately and reviewing each matter thoroughly. We work diligently to address concerns promptly and with respect.
There are three filing categories for complaints:
Anonymous submission—no contact information provided: Filing an anonymous complaint means the IG will not know who you are. If you make this selection, the IG will not be able to contact you to request additional information. It is crucial to include as much information as possible when filing anonymously.
Confidential submission—contact information provided: Associates who submit a confidential complaint provide the IG with their name but request that the IG not disclose their name outside the IG office. We will make every effort to protect your identity, but confidentiality cannot be guaranteed, as disclosure may be required under law or regulation.or instances that are not considered emergencies, the IG will provide you with a Consent of Disclosure Form to obtain your consent for the IG to release your information before it is released outside of the IG office.
Standard submission: When submitting a standard complaint, a complainant agrees, at the time of complaint submission, that the IG can disclose their name and other information provided, if necessary, to ensure issues are addressed.
When submitting a complaint, it is important to provide as much information as possible including who the complainant is w what, where, when, why and how ho the complaint is against; what the complaint is; and when and where it happened; and more, along with any evidence supporting claims of wrongdoing.
Fostering a safe environment
The IG recognizes the importance of confidentiality in the complaint process.
Your IG team is trained to manage sensitive information responsibly, in accordance with applicable privacy laws and policies.
Protecting the identity and personal details of complainants is a top priority, and we take precautions to ensure that information is shared only with those who need to know for the purpose of investigating or addressing the concern, with your permission.
