Head shot of LaRon Pope, Assistant Inspector General, with text: Exchange IG: Third Party Complaints.

The Exchange Inspector General (IG) office is committed to assisting associates with their concerns. It is important to note that the IG processes complaints submitted directly by the affected party. However, there are some exceptions or special circumstances.

The Department of War Hotline accepts complaints and information from all sources, including third parties (IAW Department of Defense Instruction 7050.01). A third party, defined as anyone submitting a complaint on behalf of another person, cannot initiate the complaint process. When the IG receives a complaint from a third party, we will acknowledge receipt and request that the third party provide our contact information to the affected individual. This allows the associates to submit their complaint directly to our office and allows us to gather firsthand information and work directly with those impacted.

While we appreciate the intention behind third-party complaints, the Privacy Act prohibits the release of protected information to people other than the complainant. Direct communication with the affected party is essential, as they possess firsthand knowledge of the situation and can provide more thorough and accurate information regarding their complaint.

There are specific circumstances under which someone other than the complainant may file a complaint. These exceptions include:

  • Parents or legal guardians filing on behalf of minors (under 18 years of age).
  • Legally appointed representatives for people unable to file independently.

The Exchange Inspector General’s office remains dedicated to addressing concerns and maintaining the highest standards of integrity within our organization. We encourage associates with complaints to contact us directly to ensure prompt and effective resolution of their issues.

Anyone can submit a complaint to the Exchange IG using one of several methods:

  • Preferred method: Online complaint form: https://odin.aafes.com/Oig;
  • Email: Hotline@aafes.com
  • Phone: (800) 527-6790 option 6, option 3
