Myth: The Exchange Office of Inspector General (IG) exists to punish or “go after” associates.

Fact: This is one of the most common misconceptions about the Inspector General’s role. In truth, the Exchange Office of Inspector General (IG) is not a disciplinary body and does not exist to target or punish anyone. Instead, the IG exists to promote integrity, accountability and trust across the organization. As a confidential representative and member of the staff of the Director/CEO, the IG conducts inquiries into and reports on matters affecting the Exchange mission, vision and strategic goals.

The IG’s primary function is fact-finding, not fault assignment. Disciplinary or corrective actions are determined by management or leadership—not by IG.

Above all, the IG exists as an impartial fact-finding entity, dedicated to helping identify and prevent fraud, waste, abuse and mismanagement. Through these efforts, the IG supports and reinforces a culture of ethical behavior, fairness and continuous improvement, ensuring the Exchange maintains its commitment to fulfilling its mission with the highest standards of excellence and credibility.

Thank you. I didn’t have a proper definition of that department.
