The Exchange ushered in a new era of support at Dugway Proving Ground with an upgraded Express, marking a major Quality-of-Life milestone for the remote installation.

The $5.7 million renovation increased the sales floor by 30% and provided other facility improvements, including adding Hunt Brothers Pizza as well as a new Snack Avenue and walk-in cooler. Located deep in the desert, about 85 miles southwest of Salt Lake City, Utah, Dugway Proving Ground relies on the Expressโ€™ essential services, including fuel.

The military community gathered for a grand opening celebration that included remarks from Army Col. Brian Sansom, a ribbonโ€‘cutting, cakeโ€‘cutting, free samples of Hunt Brothers Pizza and prizes. Other command leaders in attendance included Army Command Sgt. Maj. Jessica Cho and Dugway Proving Ground Garrison Manager Christopher Damour.

โ€œA key component of taking care of our people is ensuring they have access to the essential services they need, conveniently and affordably,โ€ Sansom said in his remarks. โ€œThe Exchange plays a fundamental role in that Quality of Life, and this newly renovated service station is a testament to that commitment.

โ€œFor our DPG workforce and their families, time is precious. This isnโ€™t just a place to fill up a tank; itโ€™s about reclaiming valuable hours that can be spent with loved ones, pursuing professional development or simply relaxing. This new facility represents a significant investment in that time, and in the overall well-being of our community.โ€

The renovation, which took 15 months to complete, was funded mostly by the Exchange. It was the Express buildingโ€™s first major upgrade since 2017.

Easy access to fuel is among the Expressโ€™ greatest conveniences. The nearest off-installation gas station is more than 40 miles away, so uninterrupted service from the Express is vital for safety and daily operations.

โ€œIf our pumps are down, it can become a critical situation,โ€ said Exchange General Manager Maria Hood. โ€œFor a location as remote as Dugway, having reliable access to essential services isnโ€™t a convenience; itโ€™s a necessity. Weโ€™re honored to deliver something that truly strengthens Quality of Life for the people who live and work here.โ€
