The National AREA Scholarship Program is continually looking for additional opportunities to meet the needs of today’s graduates. Choosing between attending college or a trade school often depends on individual career goals, desired length of education and, most important, financial considerations.

With this in mind, last year AREA expanded the National AREA Scholarship Program to include scholarships for students pursuing trade school and vocational education opportunities. By expanding scholarship eligibility to include trade schools, National AREA acknowledges the increasing demand for skilled trades and the importance of supporting students pursuing diverse career goals.

Trade schools, also known as vocational or technical schools, provide specialized hands-on training that prepares students to enter specific careers in high-demand industries. Trade school programs focus on practical skills and real-world experience designed to help students enter the workforce quickly.

Students attending trade schools can pursue rewarding careers such as:

  • Certified nursing assistant
  • Electrician
  • Medical coder
  • Plumber
  • HVAC technician
  • Automotive technician
  • Welder
  • Dental hygienist
  • Emergency medical technician (EMT)
  • Computer support specialist
  • Cosmetologist
  • Construction manager

Many of these trade school programs can be completed in two years or less, often at a significantly lower cost than a traditional college degree. Programs frequently include certifications, apprenticeships, and hands-on training that allow graduates to begin earning income sooner while avoiding large amounts of student debt.

Whether students choose a college, university, or technical training program, National AREA remains committed to helping the next generation build strong and successful futures.
