A Holiday Feast of Family Serving Family

Bakery associates Klaus Schlosser, Silke Garst, Sarah Unterweger and Bill Keller present Krispy Kreme doughnuts to an Airman and Soldier.
Junior enlisted service members with dependents at Germany’s Kaiserslautern and Baumholder didn’t go without food over the Thanksgiving holidays, thanks to the Exchange family of bakers in Gruenstadt.
The service members received a turkey and 650 meal bags stuffed with Thanksgiving food Nov. 18 as part of the USO’s Thanks for Thanksgiving dinner program.
“It was a great honor that the bakery got the chance to support this program with dinner rolls, tortillas and hot dog buns for the bags and a Krispy Kreme pavilion to hand out fresh baked doughnuts and hot coffee during the time they were waiting in line at 40° F for their bags,” said Bakery Manager Mathias Baum.
What’s more, Cake Shop Foreman Jutta Zahrebelnyj served up a mouth-watering holiday helping of “Family Serving Family” by designing 50 large Thanksgiving cakes for military customers in Grafenwoehr, Wiesbaden, Katterbach, Hohenfels, Landstuhl Medical Center, and Belgium’s Chievres AB. Each cake included 60 to 100 servings.
“Our special chocolate and vanilla cakes are iced and filled with delicious cream and filling, and includes color borders and special messages for the customers,” Baum said.
