Associates from the Korea DC will be the first ones in the Pacific Region to use the Exchange’s new warehouse management system.

Three associates from South Korea got a head-start on the opening of their new warehouse at Camp Humphreys next year by training on the latest, state-of-the-art technology at the Exchangeโ€™s West Coast Distribution Center.

Logistics Operations Manager Mr. Chon, Chun-ho, Accounting Technician Supervisor Mr. Pak, Chong-chol and Logistics Assistant Ms. Cha, Min-kyong spent Aug. 26-30 learning the West Coast DCโ€™s warehouse management technology so they can take the skills back to their country to help ensure their new DC operates efficiently.

โ€œWe appreciate the outstanding support from the West Coast DC for leading them through each of the work sections,โ€ said Pak, Yong-min, the Korea DCโ€™s manager.

The Korea DC will relocate eventually from Camp Market about 60 miles away to a new warehouse at South Koreaโ€™s Camp Humphreys. The move was expected to take place in March 2020, but has been pushed back until later in the year.

When the warehouse opens, the new DC will come complete with a state-of-the-art JDA warehouse management system used by other Exchange DCs. It will be the Pacific Regionโ€™s first of four warehouses to use the technology. The West Coast DC in California was the first CONUS warehouse to use the system.

โ€œThe West Coast team is overjoyed to participate and share our knowledge and experience from the past few years to help successfully implement the JDA warehouse management system in Korea and other DCs,โ€ said Kent Altom, the West Coast DCโ€™s manager. โ€œWeโ€™ll be here for initial training and provide whatever support is needed through implementation, whether on site here or in Korea.โ€

Chon, the Korea DC logistics operations manager, said he was glad he and his two teammates got the hands-on training.

โ€œMany Korea DC associates have worked with our present warehouse management system for decades and have wished for better ways to accomplish tasks,โ€ Chon said. โ€œWe were excited to see what the new operating system does and how it will bring those changes weโ€™ve wished for.โ€
