One in a series honoring the Exchange’s 125 years of family serving family.
Rosa Bell remembers how she would greet fresh-faced recruits as she served them in Fort Benning’s Sand Hill Troop Store and how they would remember her 20 years later when they returned as commanders.
The store manager has seen almost everything in her 47-year career with the Exchange, all at Fort Benning.
“I have traveled and worked at over 20 installations during my years at Fort Benning,” she said. “I have learned a lot and I have taught others a lot. The Exchange has been great to me.”
It’s easy to develop a deep connection to the idea of family serving family if you’ve been at one place for 47 years, Bell said.
“There is no greater honor than serving your family. You always have the most respect for your family and go far beyond the call of duty to present the best customer service in the world,” she said. “Love is eternal for our family.”
Bell’s 45-year anniversary was a career highlight for her, when she was awarded a brick from the original Camp Benning Command Building.
Bell’s Exchange roots now run deeper, after her daughter, Clevetta, joined the family eight years ago and works at the Fort Benning Mini-Mall Express.
“She thinks she knows more about the Exchange than I do,” Bell said.
