For the second consecutive year, Altus Air Force Base hosted the Legacy of the Spear event, welcoming back service members and employees with a past connection to the base, and once again the Exchange was an integral part of making it all possible.
Eventgoers enjoyed shopping for Altus souvenirs, picked up free swag and grabbed food from one of many food trucks on hand while mingling with past and present leadership, service members and employees of Altus Air Force Base.
About 350 people took part in the festivities, including Col. Patrick L. Brady-Lee, vice commander, 97th Air Mobility Wing; and Lt. Col. Colby Arends, 97th Mission Support Group deputy commander, who stopped by to thank the Exchange for its continued partnership and support at Altus.
“It was a fun event and great to have previous leadership back on base” said Altus AFB Exchange General Manager Mikel Hunter. “It was good timing too since we had the Director/CEO Cup on hand to show off our recent achievements.”
The highest honor for Exchange stores, the Director/CEO Cup is awarded to the top Exchange stores worldwide. The award honors the Fort Sill Consolidated Exchange, which includes Altus, for operational excellence in customer experience, leadership, business results, marketing efforts and community presence. The cup was awarded at the recent MSM/GM Conference.
As the present Altus AFB leadership saluted those who came before them, the Exchange also included future leaders with a Month of the Military Child table, where kids could have their picture taken and receive a military brat patch and certificate.
“The Exchange isn’t just a place of employment, it’s a family serving side-by-side to achieve an incredible mission of support,” Hunter said. “The bond among Exchange associates and the community we serve is unique. It’s a privilege to be part of that bond and history here at Altus.”
