Exchange Director/CEO Honors Fort Cavazos Team for Exceptional Support
FORT CAVAZOS — Director/CEO Tom Shull visited the Fort Cavazos Exchange on Sept. 12, honoring associates for their contributions to the Exchange’s mission: serving those who serve.
Shull visited the main Exchange at Fort Cavazos before an exclusive appearance by Hollywood star and 2022 Quality-of-Life Force Multiplier Award recipient Mark Wahlberg at the PX. Shull stopped by the new Sunglass Hut shop-in-shop concept, food court restaurants and more.
During the visit, Shull spoke with associates about the installation’s renaming from Fort Hood to Fort Cavazos, sharing his family connection to Gen. Richard E. Cavazos and the general’s impact on the morale of Soldiers.
“My brother served with him here years ago. He was the first Hispanic general at that point,” Shull said. “The one thing Gen. Cavazos was known for was how well he treated his troops—with respect, dignity and always training them to be prepared for war.”
Shull also praised the team for their hard work shared the organization’s performance with a presentation of the Exchange’s by the numbers and tip of the spear videos.
“It takes not just a village, or a town, or a city. It takes the Exchange,” he said. “Having deployed four times, I know what it means to have the Exchange there. In fact, a quote that I love that I heard from a Soldier is, ‘I knew we were going to be fine when AAFES arrived.’”
Several associates were presented with Director/CEO challenge coins as recognition of their exceptional service, including:
• Crystal Vowell, services business tech
• Ricky Harman, custodial worker foreman
• Michael Duvall, customer experience specialist
• Kevin Bradshaw, materials handler
• Desiree Hannan, restaurant manager
• Angela Vaughn, assistant restaurant manager
• Amanda Ialacci, restaurant manager
• Sylvester Kittling, food service worker
• April Hardin, store manager
• Jessica Hall, retail business manager
“Take to heart that you make a difference every day,” Shull said. “You do your part to make life better for service members and their families, and also take to heart the importance of all of us doing this as a team.”
