Melanie Morrison, Assistant Main Store Manager, Carlisle Barracks

““People work for the Exchange because they love their jobs,” the military spouse says. “I couldn’t have worked here for 24 years if I didn’t love it..”

Melanie Morrison head shot with Where Heroes Work text.

One in a series spotlighting Veteran and military spouse associates, who bring unique experiences to the Exchange mission

Who she is: Melanie Morrison, Assistant Main Store Manager, Carlisle Barracks—military spouse

Years with the Exchange: 24

Military connection: Her spouse is a retired Army Veteran

Most memorable Exchange moment: Morrison’s most unforgettable memory with the Exchange was welcoming home troops in 2003 and 2004 at Fort Hood, Texas. The Exchange sponsored a star-studded concert featuring celebrities such as Jessica Simpson and Ludacris.

Why she joined the Exchange: Morrison began her career with the Exchange after her husband received orders to Fort Hood. Previously working in food service at Fort Campbell, she sought a new path in retail. Familiar with the Exchange’s mission—We go where you go—she knew retail offered career continuity, no matter where her husband was stationed.

Why the Exchange is the best place for Veterans or military spouses to work: “People work for the Exchange because they love their jobs,” Morrison said. “I couldn’t have worked here for 24 years if I didn’t love it. I plan to stay until I’m 67.”
