The Fort Bliss Exchange recently received a special visit from Army Emergency Relief (AER) CEO Tony Grinston, the retired sergeant major of the Army.
Since the Exchange partnered with the AER in 2017, contributions have totaled $9.3 million, with Fort Bliss PX shoppers contributing nearly $16,000 in the past year, and Grinston wanted to thank associates for their role in the accomplishment.
“Army Emergency Relief has been proud to partner with the Exchange, whose steadfast support helps ensure Soldiers and their families receive the assistance they need during times of hardship,” Grinston said. “This enduring relationship strengthens our ability to respond quickly, provide meaningful relief and uphold our shared commitment to those who serve.”
General Manager Kelly Tolefree-Sarmiento and Store Manager Christel Kelly coordinated a ceremony so Grinston could thank seven associates with AER challenge coins.
Juliana Batican, customer experience host; Mary Grace Hackathorn, customer experience host; Theresa Clark, customer experience associate; Theresa Rowland, Starbucks foreman; Phillip Rodriguez, Panera food service worker; Laura Muniz, shift manager; and Norma Tewasmetaw, Logan Heights Express manager, were selected by Fort Bliss Exchange leadership based on their commitment to advance AER donation efforts to shoppers by educating them on the benefits and impact the donations have on Soldiers, Veterans and their families.
The ceremony was attended by Fort Bliss Garrison Commander Michael A. Soyka; Garrison Command Sergeant Major Robert Theus; Exchange Southwest Region Vice President Christine Harlan; Fort Bliss Operations Manager Rose Gonzalez; Exchange Retail Business Manager Tina Bretz; and Tolefree-Sarmiento.
“The Fort Bliss Exchange is honored to serve our Nation’s heroes—both in our stores and through initiatives like Army Emergency Relief. Supporting those who have served and those who continue to serve remains at the forefront of our mission,” Tolefree-Sarmiento said. “We remain committed to serving Soldiers, Veterans and their families in every way possible.”
