Exchange associates around the world will help Veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses explore meaningful career opportunities during National Hire a Veteran Day events.

The Exchange participates in National Hire a Veteran Day on or around July 25 to connect heroes with meaningful careers while reinforcing its mission of serving the military community.

“Military-connected candidates bring leadership, resilience, adaptability, teamwork and a mission-focused mindset to the workplace,” said Senior Vice President/Chief Human Resources Officer Cedric Brown. “They also understand the needs and experiences of the military communities the Exchange serves.”

The Exchange has participated in National Hire a Veteran Day events since 2023.

In 2025, nearly 80 locations took part, interviewing more than 1,200 candidates and hiring more than 55 associates. The impact of the events extends beyond immediate hires. The connections made during recruiting events can lead to future applications and placements as additional positions become available.

This year, over 90 Exchange locations are hosting more than 240 events.

“While military culture can differ from the civilian workplace, the skills, technical expertise, discipline and agility developed through military service are highly transferable,” Brown said. “One of the biggest challenges transitioning service members may face is explaining that experience in language civilian employers understand.”

Because of these challenges, in the days leading up to National Hire a Veteran Day, participating will provide resume assistance, interview preparation and military skills-translation support.

These events strengthen the relationships among Exchange teams, installation leadership and  community partners. Many Exchange locations are working with installation transition offices, workforce development agencies and community partners including the Veterans Military Educational Center, ACS – Employment Readiness program, America Works Agency and the Military and Family Readiness Center.

These partnerships connect attendees with employment opportunities, career counseling, training programs and other support.

“The expanded approach demonstrates that the Exchange is more than a Veteran-preferred employer—it is a Veteran-invested employer,” said Eliza Richburg, Chief HR Operations (CONUS).

“Whether candidates ultimately join the Exchange family or pursue opportunities with another organization, Exchange teams are committed to helping service members communicate their value and present themselves as strong candidates,” Richburg said. “However, the Exchange hopes, they will choose to continue their service with the organization.”

By bringing together organizations with a shared commitment to Veteran employment, local Exchange teams create a valuable experience for attendees while strengthening the support network available to military-affiliated job seekers.

Associates are essential to the success of National Hire a Veteran Day. Associates will welcome candidates, share information about open positions, conduct interviews and discuss what it means to serve the military community as an Exchange associate.

Associates throughout the organization can also support the effort by sharing event information with Veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses in their personal and professional networks.
