That is why I’m pleased to share an important enhancement to the Exchange Tuition Assistance program. The lifetime maximum tuition assistance benefit has increased by $10,000, providing eligible associates with even greater financial support as they pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees that align with Exchange operational needs.
The tuition assistance program has been around since 2002. Lifetime tuition assistance will be limited to a maximum of $30,000 for associates pursuing undergraduate degrees and $40,000 for pay band 5 associates pursuing a graduate degree.
The program is an important part of the Exchange’s total rewards package. The program helps high-performing associates pursue higher education at accredited institutions while developing the professional and leadership skills for continued growth with the Exchange.
Education can open doors—to new skills, greater responsibility and career opportunities. Whether you are beginning an undergraduate degree or taking the next step in your education, tuition assistance can help make that goal more attainable.
The current application window is open through Aug. 31, and you do not have to be currently enrolled in college to apply.
Applicants must be regular full-time associates, have at least one year of continuous Exchange service and have no active disciplinary actions. If applicable, VA or other scholarship benefits must be used before using tuition assistance. Graduate-degree eligibility varies by pay band.
Once accepted, participants must continue meeting the program’s academic and performance standards, including maintaining required job performance while attending classes, completing coursework during off-duty hours and pursuing a degree relevant to Exchange operational needs. Tuition assistance covers tuition only; books, supplies and other fees are not reimbursed. Associates should also review the program’s three-year employment obligation and applicable tax requirements before participating.
To apply, visit the Forms & Pubs Portal and complete Form 1850-001, Degree Application. Your application packet should include your proposed degree plan and the required leadership endorsements before being submitted to TuitionAssistance@aafes.com.
I especially encourage applicants to spend time on the justification section of the application. This portion is reviewed closely and is your opportunity to explain how your educational goals connect to your professional development and the needs of the Exchange. Thoughtful, well-developed responses help reviewers better understand the value of your proposed degree program.
Associates selected for the program will be notified and those not selected during this application cycle may be placed on a waitlist for up to two years.
