Live Update: Team Exchange Hits the Big Easy to Share Shopping Benefit Information with Veterans
As part of its ongoing efforts to inform Veterans of their lifelong, tax-free shopping benefits, the Exchange is in New Orleans connecting with heroes attending the American Veterans (AMVETS) 77th National Convention.
“We want to ensure that every Veteran is aware of their hard-earned benefit,” said Jose Hernandez, Exchange director of corporate communication. “They served our country, and the Exchange is honored to be here with them to share this information.”
Since Veterans Day 2017, all honorably discharged Veterans have been eligible to shop with the Exchange online. Veterans have welcomed the privilege, placing more than 1.4 million orders at ShopMyExchange.com.
In January 2020, the Exchange welcomed home all service-connected disabled Veterans with an in-store shopping benefit.
At the conference, swag such as koozies, towels, carabiners and bags with the Exchange logo keeps the message to Veterans front and center: the Exchange is all in for them.
For Veteran Dale Wiegand, an AMVETS member from Sturgeon Bay, Wisc., learning that he had online shopping privileges years after leaving the Navy was a “pleasant surprise.”
“I really enjoyed being able to shop the exchanges when I was serving,” Wiegand said. “When I joined the service back in 1973, they kind of promised the world to us and the world wasn’t exactly provided in the end. This benefit is a nice step to making that better and gives me a good feeling about my service.”
