Joselyn Robinsonโ€™s philosophy as the Starbucks manager at Hickam Air Base in Hawaii is simple. Train the staff to work as a team and build rapport with the customers.

Robinsonโ€™s leadership qualities helped her win Starbucksโ€™ 4th Quarter Store Leader of the Quarter out of more than 200 licensed stores in Hawaii, Los Angeles, and Arizona.

โ€œI felt honored and acknowledged for all the hard work my team did,โ€ Robinson said. โ€œMy team built a strong relationship with our customers by simply welcoming them and recognizing their presence.โ€

Starbucks District Managers Lani Booker, left, and Angie Rivers award Joselyn Robinson, Hickam Starbucks Manager, the franchiseโ€™s Store Leader of the Quarter for the 4th quarter. Robinson and her team set Hawaiiโ€™s single-day sales record at $29,585 during Starbucks Holiday Launch.

Prior to her career with the Exchange, she was a military spouse, married to a U.S. Navy Submariner and raising four children. Now, she has been with the Exchange for 11 years, the past three as the Starbucks manager.

โ€œWorking for the Exchange is like having a family who can understand your needs and wants,โ€ Robinson said. โ€œAs a military spouse, I am able to share my compassion for the military community and veterans.โ€

Robinsonโ€™s latest venture took her store into new heights and achieved something that has never been done in Hawaii before.

โ€œJoselyn decided to go big for this yearโ€™s Starbucks Holiday Launch.โ€ Hawaii Food Business Manager Rochello Reveche said. โ€œShe and her team had $29,585 in sales, which is the highest single-day sales in all of Hawaiiโ€™s store history.โ€

Even though Robinson was recognized with the award, she gave all the credit to her team.

โ€œThe Holiday Launch was successful because of my teamโ€™s effort and leadershipโ€™s support.โ€ Robinson said. โ€œWe did a lot of planning and preparing getting ourselves ready for a very busy day.โ€

Robinson and her teamโ€™s hard work and friendly smiles didnโ€™t go unnoticed as several customers left comments of gratitude and praise.

โ€œI would like to pass on my appreciation for the great service this morning at the Hickam Food Court Starbucks by the Base Exchange,โ€ one customer said. โ€œJoselyn, Andrea and Matthew made a Monday morning better just by being friendly and welcoming.โ€

โ€œIt’s nice to see realย customer-service skills,โ€ another customer said. โ€œI’ve visited a lot of Starbucks on the island, but this one is always my favorite because they spread happiness with their positive attitudes and quick-accurate skills.โ€

Robinsonโ€™s career with the Exchange gives her a sense of belonging and purpose. She canโ€™t see herself being anywhere else.

โ€œServing our service members makes me feel proud that I’m able to support our Armed Forces, who protect our country and our families,โ€ Robinson said. โ€œI love making customer connections by simply asking them how they are doing and getting them to smile. I always try to make them feel welcomed and appreciated.โ€

Robinsonโ€™s philosophy for her team is simple: โ€œOur mission is to serve happiness in every cup.โ€
