Who he is: Damon Cantey, PowerZone sales area manager, Camp Humphreys
Years with the Exchange: Four
What brought him to the Exchange: “I was looking for a job that would offer me a Status of Forces Agreement that would allow me to stay and work in Korea so I could be with my wife, Hea-sun, and daughter, Daniella. I attended one of the Exchange’s job fairs and I haven’t looked back.”
Where he’s worked: “I have only worked at Camp Humphreys Exchange.”
What he did at first: “I started working for the Exchange at Camp Humphreys main store as a laborer in the clothing department. I opened boxes, hung clothes and stocked baby equipment on the sales floor.”
What he does now: “I have been fortunate to have been promoted from the stockroom to the PowerZone as a sales area manager.”
Memorable moment: “In the height of the COVID pandemic, I showed an active-duty Soldier and his wife the last exercise bicycle on the floor that had a defective display, but they liked the bike so much, they purchased it anyway. I told them that I would contact the vendor and see if we could get a replacement display for them. After five months of back and forth, I was able to tell them that the part was in. When they came in to pick up their new display, they had baked a cake for me to show their appreciation.”
Military connection: “I joined the Army at 17 and served as a food service specialist for 21 years. I am proud to say that I am an U.S. Army retired Veteran.”
Exchange connection: “I have been shopping at the Exchange since I was 17 when I joined the Army and, after 21 years of serving Soldiers in the chow line, I get to serve them in a different capacity as the PowerZone sales area manager.”
Family serving family: “I am thankful that the Exchange offers their associates, like me, SOFA status so I can continue to serve our Warfighters and I get to go home and be with my family every day.”
